ABOUT THE DESIGNER AND THE COLLECTION

Julia Burnbaum is the self-taught designer of the fresh, new knitwear line Juleselin. Made in San Francisco, Ca in a friendly sweatshop-free environment this versatile collection is created from organic cotton, bamboo and recycled fabrications. “I’ve always wanted to design clothing professionally,” says Julia. “For some reason I never thought that I could and then one day I discovered that I never would if I never tried.”

Born and raised in Colorado, Julia moved to the Bay Area in January 2005. After a little over two years at Macy’s West she decided to give in to her “moment of brilliant insanity” and pursue her passion of design, jackets in particular. “Jackets are the wardrobe item that really pulls an outfit together. I moved to San Francisco with all of my down and wool jackets and it just didn’t work.  I wanted the same style but in fabric that was suitable for the coastal weather conditions and comfortable so that when you walk inside you don’t have to take it off.”

Showing customers that they don’t have to sacrifice style to be green, Juleselin is rooted with classic trench, swing and pea coat silhouettes. Feminine touches like ruffled collars; face-framing hoods and belted waistlines can be seen throughout the collection. Most importantly, Julia is doing her part in protecting the environment. “My business is representative of who I am and what I value.   I wanted it to be something that I could be proud of.  I feel that I am simply being a responsible citizen and manufacturer.”

Not only is the collection made using organic fabrics, dyes are low impact and Julia is serious about green office practices like recycling shipping and packaging materials.

THE DESIGNS AND THE LADIES THEY ARE NAMED AFTER

Each style is named after someone near and dear to Julie.  Before designing each style, Julie interviews the individual that will soon be the mascot of that style.  Styles are designed to fit into the lifestyle and needs of each individual.

MINDING THE ENVIRONMENT

At juleselin we say “IT’S G0OD BE GREEN!”  We use organic/recycled fabric.  All paper products used are made from recycled paper.  We use recycled boxes and we reuse them as often as we can.  In the office we make every effort to be low impact. We use low energy halogen lighting when needed at all.  Paints are no VOC.  Furniture is recycled. We hope that you will find value in our efforts and join us in protecting the environment.  If we all act together we can make a difference!

FAIR AND LOCAL LABOR

Each juleselin piece is individually made in a friendly sweatshop-free environment.  All juleselin products are made in San Francisco, CA where rent is high, labor is costly and standards are strictly enforced.  We wouldn’t have it any other way!
